A Tribute to Timișoara
October 18, 1716 marks the victorious entry of Prince Eugene of Savoy-Carignano in the fortress of Timișoara. We celebrate the most important day in the history of Timișoara, which opened the way to civilization and development. So the name of the Hotel De Savoya came by itself, also celebrating the location of our hotel on the street of the same name. The construction was completed in 2011, but it took a few years for it to come to fruition and turn into a chic boutique hotel as it was originally conceived.
The Beginning of our Hotel
The Hotel De Savoya was built on the site of the urban ensemble of the Cetate district, built on the site of the Habsburg fortress. Following the collapse of an old building, the idea of erecting a new one was mooted in 2007. The story of our hotel, the result of a long tradition of modern urban planning, began after 1716, when the Fortress of Timișoara was liberated from Turkish rule by the Austrians under the rule of Eugene of Savoy.
The district was remodeled with squares and straight streets, the buildings were well aligned and the buildings were enriched with architectural accents. The predominant style is the Viennese-influenced Baroque style, which gave Timișoara the name "Little Vienna", but from the end of the 19th century, Art Nouveau, Secession and eclectic styles also appeared. Thus, the Cetate district of Timișoara offers the visitor much more than military relics, it is a coherent urban ensemble in which valuable monuments present historical connections of European level.
